About the Event



 Petroleum ETC Frac School courses are renowned for the balanced presentation of both the theoretical and the practical. The Frac School 101 introduces hydraulic fracturing in a truly unique learning environment. The course reviews the basic concepts of hydraulic fracturing and the broad applications of the technique. Fracturing technology benefits and limitations in all types of sandstone and carbonate reservoirs are explained. It considers the critical components of the fracturing process, design, and implementation of hydraulic fracturing treatments. The multi-instructor training perspective is one of a kind not offered by any other school around. This allows for a dynamic approach to techniques and worldwide experience. In addition to the technical presentation, the course contains many practical exercises and class problems based on case histories. The top priority is to become familiarized with the fundamentals of hydraulic fracturing including the universal process for Shale and Conventional plays, rock properties/log analysis, regulatory issues, and specifics of propping agents, frac fluids, and forced closure.


The Frac School is unique in the field of hydraulic fracturing training in that it is a 4 day-long course that has multiple instructors. The focus of the course is, perceptibly, on fracturing: the universal process for Shale and Conventional plays, rock properties/log analysis, regulatory issues, and specifics of propping agents, frac fluids, and forced closure. Fundamentally the ins and outs from industry experts that have both the experience and the ability to effectively share it, with fledging engineers. Registration costs are $3,450.00 USD and each additional registration with a group of 3 no more than 10 can register at $1,990.00 USD. About the Instructors

DR. STUART SCOTT

Dr. Scott is the Technology Director for Petroleum Emerging Technology Corporation (Petroleum ETC), an ASME Fellow, and SPE Distinguished Member.  From 2008-2016, he managed the Shell Deepwater Artificial Lift Technology Program and served several years as the Artificial Lift / Pumping Principal Technical Expert (PTE) for Shell, on a global basis.  Before coming to Shell, Scott held the Bethancourt Professorship of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University, was a faculty member at Louisiana State University (LSU), and worked for Phillips Petroleum Company in a variety of roles.  He holds B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Petroleum Engineering and a M.S. degree in Computer Science – all from The University of Tulsa.

NICHOLAS N. DEUTSCH

Nick Deutsch is a Hydraulic Fracturing Regulatory Issues Specialist. His client-driven, results-focused approach has allowed him to successfully represent clients of all sizes, from individuals and start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.  He has more than a decade of experience in a wide range of practice areas including complex commercial litigation, eminent domain, and product liability litigation.  His clients come from an array of industries, including Real Estate, Oil & Gas, and Medical Devices.  Nick is licensed in all state and federal courts in Texas as well as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and he has practiced in courts throughout the nation.  Prior to opening Crump & Deutsch, PLLC, Nick was a Partner at Shook, Hardy, & Bacon, L.L.P. 

Nick received his J.D., with honors, from The University of Texas School of Law, where he was Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review and Justice (President) of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.  He also holds a B.A., Cum Laude, from Southern Methodist University, where he was a Member of Phi Beta Kappa as well as several other honor societies.

In addition to practicing law, Nick is a real estate investor and developer, giving him a unique business perspective on legal matters.  Nick also enjoys classic cars and spending time with his wife, Jen, and their three children.

DR. JERRY JENSEN

Dr. Jerry Jensen joined the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in 2007, after 10 years in the industry (Schlumberger and Gearhart Ind.) and 20 years at academic institutions (Texas A&M and Heriot-Watt Universities). He is co-author of more than 100 publications, including the books: "Statistics for Petroleum Engineers and Geoscientists" Elsevier 2nd Edition, 2000, and reprinted 2003) and "Practical Reservoir Engineering and Characterization" (Elsevier, 2015).

W. Aaron Burton

AARON BURTON

Aaron's career has been focused on the completion of shales and similar unconventional plays that require multistage hydraulic fracturing. In 2015, Burton started Unconventional Oil and Gas Training, a company specializing in training and consulting for unconventional multistage completions. Prior to starting the company, he was with Baker Hughes for nearly 8 years. During his tenure at Baker Hughes he held a variety of roles in operations, business development, and product lines that were focused on multistage completions for hydraulic fracturing. He is an active author and instructor in the industry, authoring a chapter for an award-winning textbook, teaching five SPE continuing education courses, and has a video blog on multistage completions for hydraulic fracturing at Aaron Burton's Blog. He has written a variety of other documents including SPE papers, magazine articles and newsletters, and taught numerous classes to many different audiences and organizations. Also, he has been a discussion leader, presenter, panelist, and participated in many other roles in industry events.

Mick Fetkovich - Guest Speaker - Petroleum ETC Frac School 101

MICK FETKOVICH

Mick specializes in unconventional reservoir forecasting and characterization, waterfloods, pressure transient analysis, rate transient analysis, and field studies utilizing reservoir simulation and classical reservoir engineering techniques. He worked for QRI, analyzing multiple PEMEX-operated offshore carbonate fields and used rate transient analysis, pressure transient analysis, and reservoir simulation to understand the performance of these fields. Senior Advisor for DEEPCAST, a big data analytics company. 


RAY ELLIS

Ray graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Gas Engineering.  During his 35-year career, he has focused mostly on tight reservoir stimulation for a significant number of basins in the US and a number of International assignments including China, Egypt, Argentina, Colombia, and Australia among others. Before joining Liberty Oilfield Services, he worked in Statoil’s Research and Technology Group as an advisor to their US Onshore Unconventional organization where he was involved in the evaluation and integration of technology for the improvement of completion effectiveness.  He currently holds the position of Regional Technology Manager for the Houston region of Liberty Oilfield Services.



WADHAH AL-TAILJA

Wadhah is a Technical Manager at CARBO, where he provides technical advice on hydraulic fracture design, diagnostics, modeling, and product selection.  His professional interests include proppant selection and transport, and evaluating and optimizing proppant placement in oil and gas formations.  He has extensive field supervision experience in unconventional shales plays, both as a fracturing consultant, as well as supervising field trials of new products and technologies (such as CARBO's QUANTUM propped-fracture imaging service).  Before joining CARBO in 2010, he spent five years in field and region engineering roles at BJ Services Company in East Texas, where he was involved in their fracturing, acidizing, and cementing service lines.  He has authored three SPE papers, co-authored numerous others, served as an SPE Distinguished Lecturer during the 2017/2018 season, and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Petroleum Engineering from New Mexico Tech.
